The Alpin Fis weekend was full of emotions and adrenaline in the Dolomites. “Let’s Rock” was the slogan this year of the ski races in Alta Badia and Val Gardena.
Four disciplines were presented in four days: starting on December 16th in Val Gardena with the Men’s Super-G and followed by the Men’s Downhill on December 17th. On Sunday and Monday the athletes descended the famous slope “Gran Risa” in La Villa/Alta Badia in the Giant Slalom and Parallel Giant Slalom. Both races brought surprising results and the winners were Marcel Hirscher from Austria and Sarrazin Cyprien from France.
This year featured a new addition, the South Tyrol Ski Trophy. The athlete with the most points won the substantial sum of €20,000 in a program designed to promote the culture and the hospitality of the area. Kjetil Jansrud from Norway was the winner.
In addition, this year featured the first theme song of the Ski World Cup. The song was named: Let Us Rock. For the people living in the Dolomites, the word “rock” means mountain and music. A local band of 6 musicians, named Wisetime, composed and performed the theme song for the big event.
The Ski World Cup is not only a great occasion to let the world know where the Dolomites are but to present culture and fun, all in one. The next big ski race event in the Dolomites will take place in Cortina and San Vigilio in January 2017.
