Trip Overview

Experience a unique way to journey through the Dolomites, discovering breathtaking landscapes, inspired gourmet cuisine, traditional artisan craftsmanship, and the fascinating culture of this Italian, Austrian, and Ladin region of northern Italy.
Travel point-to-point from Val Gardena (the valley of woodworkers) to Alpe di Siusi (the highest alpine plateau in Europe) to Val di Funes (a delightfully quiet valley) as you move north through South Tyrol / Alto Adige. The hikes on this itinerary are light and easy yet still reward you with panoramic views of the Dolomites’ iconic peaks. Along the way, you’ll uncover the rich history of the northern Dolomites—a blend of ancient Roman (Ladin / Romansch) heritage, Austro-Hungarian influences, and Italian traditions, expressed through three languages and a unique yet shared cuisine.

Begin your adventure in beautiful Val Gardena, a valley celebrated for its deep-rooted tradition of woodcarving, where you’ll visit local artisans’ workshops and witness firsthand the meticulous craftsmanship passed down through generations. Explore Alpe di Siusi, Europe’s largest high-altitude alpine meadow, where rolling pastures, vibrant wildflowers, and towering peaks create a serene setting for peaceful hikes.
Immerse yourself in local culture at a traditional herb farm, learning about regional herbs and their culinary uses. Take part in a hands-on cooking class and enjoy the fruits of your labor in a shared meal. In the charming village of Fiè allo Sciliar, visit a specialty coffee roastery founded by Italy’s first coffee sommelier.
Next, discover the beauty of Val di Funes, hiking the famed Adolf Munkel Trail to the picturesque town of Santa Maddalena, home to one of the Dolomites’ most photographed churches.
Conclude your South Tyrolean journey with a hike on the Plose, soaking in stunning 360-degree views of the Stubai Alps, Dolomites, and Ortlers. To round off the experience, indulge in a relaxing massage—perfect for body, mind, and soul—savor gourmet cuisine, and enjoy an inspiring wine tasting.

On this Hiking Safari, you’ll experience the true authenticity of the region, where unexpected gems await as you connect with the locals, deepening your knowledge and appreciation of the Dolomites. Each day features a special experience, adding an extra layer of discovery.
