Classic Bike Tour – Prosecco to the Dolomites

Road bike from the foothills of the Italian Alps into the heart of the Dolomite Mountains, exploring the Prosecco region, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and Alta Badia! Enjoy moderate to challenging cycling through vineyards and forests, over high mountain passes and down into lush green valleys, sampling the fine sparkling wines and delicious local cuisine throughout.

Trip Overview

From the foothills of the Italian Alps, into the heart of the Dolomite Mountains, this 8-day cycling trip offers a beautiful, moderate to challenging landscape to bike through!

You’ll begin in the region where sparkling Prosecco wine hails from, riding through Alpine foothills, or Prealpi, set half-way between Venice and the Dolomites. Covered with grapevines that are destined to produce the liquid gold we so lovingly call Prosecco, the breathtaking vistas perfectly complement the gorgeous wines produced here. Elevations range from 50 to 500 meters (150-1,500'), creating not only steep sunny hillsides that vintners have tended to for generations, but fantastic riding on winding roads, making for challenging ascents and exhilarating descents! You’ll ride on the Strada del Prosecco (Prosecco Wine Road), through the forests of the Giro del Cansiglio (Cansiglio Tour), explore charming villages and elegant architecture along the way.

When you climb out of the foothills, you’ll ride up into the Dolomites, stopping first in Cortina d’Ampezzo. This chic mountain town is famous for both summer and winter activities alike, for hosting the first ever televised Winter Olympics in 1956, and for co-hosting the 2026 games with Milan. Continue cycling deeper into the Dolomites, to Alta Badia, the heart of these mountains. The landscape of this magnificent valley is simply breathtaking, surrounded by massive peaks on all sides. Enjoy a day off from cycling here, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore – either hiking, riding a chairlift to the Pralongià High Plateau, or from the comfort of a café at your hotel or in the village beneath the peaks. Your final ride? The Sellaronda: a challenging circumnavigation of the Sella Massif, climbing over four mountain passes and descending into four lush valleys. (Now aren’t you glad you had that rest day!?)

Throughout your trip, you’ll indulge in delicious meals, noting both similarities and differences in the cuisine as you move from region to region, all with the option to sample excellent local wines. From foothills to deep valleys set beneath towering peaks, challenge yourself and explore the hills of Prosecco and the mountains of the Dolomites by road bike!
