Sardinia Wild Blue Zone Trek

Arrive on the island of Sardinia, flying in to either Cagliari Elmas International Airport (CAG) to the south, or Olbia International Airport (OLB) to the north, and take a 2-2.5-hour private transfer to Santa Maria Navarrese. Santa Maria Navarrese is two hours (150km / 93 miles) from the Cagliari Elmas Airport, or 2.5 hours (154km / 96 miles) from the Olbia Airport. The hamlet of Santa Maria Navarrese is a renowned seaside resort that sits at the foot of a hill covered with olive, fig, locust, and lotus trees and is surrounded by dense Mediterranean brush. 

Transfer to Ginnircu in the morning and start your hike to Capo Monte Santu, a rocky elbow teetering a thousand feet over the deep blue sea and continue walking along the edge of 200-meter (656') cliffs, high above the sea. From Capo Monte Santu, it is approximately four hours to Portu Pedrosu and Portu Quau, two beautiful small fjords surrounded by grey limestone. Tented overnight at the beach.

Transfer to Iribidosilli by car and hike to Punta Salinas for a fantastic view of the Mediterranean sea and the vertical limestone cliffs that fall into the Orosei gulf. A fast descent brings you to the astonishing Aguglia di Goloritze and on to the stunning white and blue cove of Goloritzé.

Hike from Cala Goloritzè to Cala Mariolu

The Grotta del Fico is probably the most beautiful cave in Sardinia. You are sure to be amazed by the spectacular formations, lights and shadows that dance along the walls and in the water, and fresh water falls inside the cave. Beyond its beauty, it is important in both the history of Sardinian speleology (the scientific study of caves and other karst features) and wildlife research, specifically monk seals, who were last seen here in the early 1980s. Boat transfer to Santa Maria Navarrese and overnight in hotel for the last two nights. Dinner at leisure (not included).

In the morning ascend inland along a deep valley called Badde de Lupiru to Punta Onamarra (730m / 2,395'). At Cuile Girove Longu, you’ll pass between a sheepfold and a Pinnettu – an old hut built with branches and stones, where shepherds take shelter from the hot sun or heavy rains, but above all where they join each other around the fire to have a piece of cheese and a glass of good wine! Further along you’ll pass a number of circular charcoal hearths, and enjoy occasional views of Cala Gonone en route. The view over the Gulf is breathtaking! You’ll cross a limestone crest (630m / 2,130'), from where you begin your descent, zigzagging down a rough stony path. On the hike down, you’ll pass S'Arcada S'Architieddu Lupiru – a beautiful rock window on your right set high along the cliffs. Definitely worth a short detour to see it up close! Descend to Cala Luna, or "Moon Cove", where you will again have an afternoon to swim in crystal-clear waters and relax. This beach is a crescent of white sand backed by high limestone cliffs. It is striking not only for it’s “typical” Mediterranean combination of crystal blue green waters set off by white sand and cliffs, but for beautiful pink oleanders set in the middle of the cliffs, where a stream provides some welcome shade. In the afternoon, return by boat to Santa Maria Navarrese.
