Sardinia

Untouched & Idyllic Sardinia

Hike the coastal and mountain trails of Sardinia, trekking through deep gorges, reaching high-elevation prehistoric sites, and descending to the crystal blue waters of the Mediterranean. The grand finale? Enjoy a luxurious, leisurely day relaxing on an incredible sailing yacht as you cruise around the idyllic and untouched La Maddalena archipelago!

Trip Overview

Explore the untouched and idyllic parts of Sardinia – the central-eastern Olbia Coastline, the mountainous interior of the island, and the beautiful northeast coast. On this guided / self guided combination itinerary, you’ll hike through beautiful mountains, discovering cultural artifacts that date back before the Romans, but you’ll also drop down to secluded beaches, accessible only by foot or by private boat. In fact, many of your hiking excursions will end with time on the beach before transferring back to your hotel by boat! You’ll be plenty active each day, with opportunities to swim and relax on the beach throughout.

Sardinia’s east coast and interior comprise one of the last wilderness sanctuaries on the Mediterranean Sea. The landscape of the beautiful Supramonte Mountains on the east side of the island belongs to one of the most dramatic coastlines of the Mediterranean. White limestone cliffs rise 800 meters (2,625') high out of the crystal-clear blue waters of the Golfo di Orosei. The pristine beaches here offer an unmatched beauty of crystal waters and pristine white pebbles and rocks that render the sea an unimaginable variety of turquoise colors, changing at different times of day and depending on your angle of view. And thousands of mysterious Nuraghe villages and towers scattered over this island tell us of ancient times and ancient cultures that once ruled Sardinia.

Begin your trip hiking above the Orosei Gulf, exploring coastal spires and cliffs, Pedra Longa and Punta Giradili, that drop vertically into the sea. You’ll even visit a shepherd’s flock on the Golgo Plateau! Hike to one of the most beautiful beaches here, Cala Mariolu, then hop on a boat to explore the Grotta del Fico, a cave famous for its role in the history of Sardinian speleology (the study of caves). Next you’ll move inland, hiking in the Supramonte Mountains. Discover the Valle di Lanaitto (Lanaitho Valley), nestled between its imposing limestone cliffs, and explore the ancient Tiscali Nuraghic Village, tucked into the mountain, hidden from view.

On your last few days, you’ll explore an altogether different landscape to the northeast: the Costa Smeralda. Granite and porphyry rock create quiet, dream-like coves with turquoise sandy beaches, while jagged inlets make for picturesque landscapes, set off by the gentle hills found inland. Explore the posh towns of Costa Smeralda with their picturesque squares and plethora of high end shops. The finishing touch? Spend your final day cruising along turquoise waters of La Maddalena Archipelago, discovering hidden coves and pristine beaches, taking in the idyllic luxury that is Sardinia!

Towering cliffs and peaks, crystalline turquoise water, coastal and mountain trails – what are you waiting for? Join us on Sardinia!

About Dolomite Mountains Trips in Sardinia

From sandy shorelines eroded by the intense blue waters of the Mediterranean, to peaks and colorful landscapes in its interior, Sardinia is perfect for active and leisure vacations alike! The largest of the Italian islands, and the second largest of the Mediterranean, Sardinia offers hikers coastal trails and mountain tracks alike! The unique combination of beautiful coastline, pleasant climate, rich history, and diverse culture make Sardinia ripe for adventure. Its coasts are lined with white sand beaches, towering Limestone cliffs in fantastic shades of purple, gray, and black, and caves full of stalactites and stalagmites, surrounded by the blue green waters of the Sardinian sea.

Away from the shore is a harshly beautiful, wild landscape, characterized by mountain chains, forests, plateaus, and rivers. And everywhere on Sardinia there are traces of human settlements, ancient and rich in history and legends, dating as far back as the Neolithic Age. And did we mention the food!?  Not surprisingly, seafood figures prominently in Sardinian cuisine, as does wild boar, stews, and unusual pastas waiting to be discovered. Exploring the island never ceases to be extraordinary. What are you waiting for?
