Trans-Alp Ski Safari – Austria to Italy

Sölden, Gurgl, and Dolomiti Superski. Three of the top ski destinations in the world, all on one great trip! Join us and discover the incredible beauty, magnificent skiing, and compelling diversity of the Austrian and Italian Alps.

Trip Overview

The Alps offer some of the world’s most renowned skiing – world-class resorts with incredible terrain and sublime vistas across magnificent landscapes. And, of course, the variety of enticing cuisine and fascinating culture! On this incredible holiday, you’ll experience two of the Alps' finest ski destinations: Austria’s Ötztal Valley and Italy’s Dolomite Mountains.

Your trip begins in Austria, where you’ll stay in Sölden, one of Tyrol's most popular resort towns, and ski in two of the leading ski destinations in the Austrian Alps. Sölden is a world-class ski resort where the modern on-mountain experience extends from contemporary architecture to the modern lift system, including two of the most powerful gondolas in the world. Whether you’re on the mountain or in town, you’ll find everything from fine dining to rustic lodge fare and, of course, a vibrant après-ski scene that Austria is known for. You’ll also ski at Gurgl, at the top of the Ötztal Valley, where you’ll discover one of the Alps’ most snow-reliable ski areas encircled by snow-covered 3000-meter-high (6,500') peaks. Incredible restaurants can be found from the top to the bottom of the resort, where you can even enjoy an outdoor après-ski perched hundreds of meters up! Excellent service, modern infrastructure, and incredible terrain make Gurgl one of the most sought-after resorts in Austria.

Next, head south across the border to Italy’s Dolomite Mountains and explore the superb Dolomiti Superski, the number one ski resort in the world. You’ll ski from valley to valley, exploring a different resort each day –Val Gardena, Val di Fassa, Marmolada, Alta Badia, and Cortina d’Ampezzo – taking in the variety of terrain and distinctive landscapes that each region offers. With such expansive, skiable terrain, this is truly a vacation in paradise! Each night, you’ll get a taste of the delightful hotels and charming rifugi – high mountain inns, each with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Throughout your journey, savor the incredible hearty cuisine that the Dolomites are known for, and discover the fascinating culture and history of these mountains, the people, and their traditions.

Join us and discover the incredible beauty, magnificent skiing, and compelling diversity of the Austrian and Italian Alps.

Accommodation

Great hotels with Dolomite Mountains. Whether intimate lodge, family run B&B, or luxury spa resort, our hotels are unique, eminently local, and hard to leave.

Want to learn more about our Hotels and B&Bs?
The Dolomites have a multi-faceted culture and history that is reflected in each village we visit, and we make sure to provide you with the most authentic experience of the region possible through the hotels and B&Bs we offer. Hotels and chalets are available in the larger villages, while agriturismos (working farms with accommodations similar to B&Bs) are more common in rural areas. And we always make sure you have access to inspired regional cuisine, and the best panoramas you can get in the Dolomites!

Prefer luxury accommodations?
You can also book a custom departure of this trip using our luxury hotels. For details, please contact us.

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugios?
Rifugios – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugios are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities.

The Dolomite rifugios are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.

To learn even more about rifugios in the Dolomites, check out our Rifugios in the Dolomites article, and learn about one of the best ways to experience these incredible mountains!
Still want more? Why not extend your adventure!
Dolomite Mountains offers fantastic extensions that you can enjoy before or after your trip in the Dolomites. Explore Venice, Verona, Lake Garda, Florence, or Milan, or any of the many other magical places found throughout Italy. There's no more perfect way to recover from jet lag upon arrival, or delay your return to reality at the end of your trip!
