South Tyrol

Merano & Bolzano Discovery by Road Bike

Discover the charming cities of Bolzano and Merano, bike across the South Tyrol Wine Route, the legendary Stelvio Pass, the Renon plateau and much more!

Trip Overview

Cycle in the South Tyrol region amid stunning views of the Alps and idyllic valleys, stay in 4-star boutique hotels in Bolzano, and Merano, relax in spas, saunas, and thermal baths after the rides, and feast on gourmet northern Italian cuisine and wines on this wonderful bike tour.
South Tyrol enchants with its appealing mixture of German traditions and Italian flair. Begin your trip in Bolzano / Bozen, famous for its surroundings graced by the mild climate. Pedal past hundreds of vineyards on the South Tyrol Wine Route, where the largest contiguous fruit-growing region in Europe continues up to Lake Kaltern/Caldaro. Roll down through the fertile Vinschgau Valley into Merano, one of the largest and best cities in the province, and ride across the Renon plateau.

The South Tyrol (or Südtirol in German, commonly referred to as Alto Adige in Italian), where this itinerary will take you, is set right against the Austrian border. In fact, until the Italian Annexation in 1926, it was part of Austria. Here you’ll find the dominant language to be German, followed by Italian and Ladin (and English, of course!). And you’ll find the same mix of cultures and cultural influences in everything from architecture to food.
On this trip, you will discover the areas of Bolzano and Merano, their colors and flavors, vineyards, and of course, plenty of cycling!
