Family Dolomites Climbing & Via Ferrata Experience

Join us for a week in the Dolomite Mountains, where you’ll learn how to rock climb and climb via ferrata, with plenty of hiking and relaxation time in between. Incredible mountain landscapes, food from three cultures, history, geology, and culture… need we say more?

Trip Overview

Is your family looking for an adventure? Then do we ever have trip for you! Spend a week in the Dolomite Mountains, where you’ll learn how to rock climb and climb via ferrata, with plenty of hiking and relaxation time in between.
The Dolomites are a rock climber’s paradise. While they are sought after by climbers from around the world, there is terrain for every experience level here. You’ll begin by hiking on an easy sentiero – a path equipped with cables for protection. Next you’ll learn the basics of rock climbing, including how to use a harness and communicate while you’re on the rock. And finally, you’ll climb a via ferrata, the iron paths of cables and ladders that were originally installed during WWI (don’t worry – the hardware has been updated!)! Throughout the trip, you’ll continue to climb on routes that gradually become more challenging, always with safety in mind, and based on the abilities of your family.
This itinerary will take you to some of the most famous landmarks in the Dolomites: Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Passo Falzarego, and Cinque Torri (Five Towers) – a true playground for climbers. You’ll experience breathtaking summits and vistas, friendly knowledgeable guides (certified with the highest alpine credentials in the world!), incredible food, and get to play outdoors with your family every day.
If you’re not careful, you’re kids might even learn a thing or two. Beyond climbing and outdoor skills, the World War One history here is everywhere. In addition to climbing the via ferrata routes that the Italian and Austrian soldiers originally placed, you’ll experience open air museums with tunnels and trenches. And the rock that you’re actually climbing on? There’s plenty of geology here – sometimes you can even spot fossils in the rock from when this mountain range lay deep beneath the sea! And last, but not least, this region plays host to three unique cultures – Italian, Austrian, and the native Ladin, each with their own language, cuisine, and customs to discover. As if you needed another reason to join us!

Want to learn more about our Mountain Inns & Rifugi?
Rifugi – or mountain huts in English – are the classic accommodation for hikers, climbers, mountaineers, and ski mountaineers in the Alps. Set in spectacular locations high in the Dolomites, rifugi are accessible only on foot (with a few exceptions that are reachable by car). These marvelous establishments are open primarily in the summer, with a select few in winter, and offer meals and sleeping facilities.

The Dolomite rifugi are considered the best in the Alps. While some are dormitory style with bunk beds, many meet the standard of a simple guest house with private rooms and en-suite bathrooms, and each has its own unique character and charm. Bedding and linens are provided, hot showers are available, and meals are served in common dining areas – like a small mountain inn set high in the mountains with the most incredible vistas in the Dolomites. Whether you’re hiking in summer or skiing in winter, an overnight rifugio stay is not to miss on a Dolomite holiday.
