Hiking Alta Via N.1 of the Dolomites

In the morning of July 8th as we were on the point to leave from refuge Passo Staulanza, I realized that I had lost my camera the day before and probably just close by and before refuge Citta di Fiume.

I thought that it was definitely lost, but the lady managing Passo Staulanza told me she was going to try and find it.

She phoned refuge Citta di Fiume and yes somebody had found a camera and brought it to the refuge!! We gave a description of my canon camera and yes it was mine. The problem was that I would need nearly 2 hours to hike back to get it before starting our trip to Refuge Tissi and it would then be difficult to do it that day.

Then the girl at refuge Citta di Fiume phoned the owner who was somewhere in the valley to ask him where he was; This gentleman offered right away to drive back to his refuge, pick up the camera, and bring it to us at Passo Staulanza ! Once he arrived with the camera, he kindly drove us on the gravel road # 568 for about 4.5 km to the beginning of trail 561. So no time was lot for our 8^th day hike!

When we offered him some money for his trouble he refused and said it was his pleasure to have helped us.

I can tell you that there are not many countries where people are so honest and helpful.
