The Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage

On June 26th the Dolomites have been included in the World Heritage List because of their exceptional beauty and unique landscape, together with their scientific importance from the geological and geomorphological point of view.

Under an international treaty called the Convention concerning the Protection of World Cultural and Natural Heritage, adopted in 1972, UNESCO has so far approved 689 cultural, 176 natural and 25 mixed sites in 148 countries around the world. The inclusion of the Dolomites in the World Heritage List is therefore an extraordinary form of recognition, but it also implies a strong commitment and responsibility for the safeguarding and sustainable development of this wonderful region.
